12 Things You Probably Didn't Know About the Movie 'Groundhog Day'

I thought this would be appropriate, since it actually is groundhog day.

1. Bill Murray was bitten by the groundhog twice during shooting. 

2. Director Harold Ramis originally wanted Tom Hanks for the lead role, but decided against it, saying that Hanks was “too nice.”

3. Tori Amos was considered for the role of Rita.

4. A family of groundhogs was actually raised for the production.

5. One of the groundhog officials is Brian Doyle-Murray, one of Bill Murray’s five brothers.

6. The movie was filmed in Woodstock, Illinois. In Woodstock, there’s a small plaque that reads “Bill Murray stepped here” on the curb where Murray continually steps into a puddle.

7. According to an interview with director Harold Ramis, he and Bill Murray argued over the tone of the film. Murray wanted the film to be more philosophical while Ramis wanted it to be more comedic. The two argued throughout the production and have not spoken to each other since.

8. On February 2, 1993 the sun didn’t rise until 7:25am in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. This means the film is technically inaccurate - it would still have been dark at 6am.

9. According to director Harold Ramis, most of the times when he tried to explain a scene to Bill Murray, Murray would interrupt and ask, “Just tell me - good Phil or bad Phil?”

10. In the “Jeopardy!” sequence, the second player we see is Jim Scott, a five-time “Jeopardy” Champion who won his fifth game on the October 1, 1990 broadcast. He went on to win the Tournament of Champions contest that season.

11. There are exactly 38 days depicted in the movie either partially or in full.

12. They shot 25 takes of the closing scene when Bill Murray wakes up next Andie MacDowell as they were unsure of the tonality of the scene.

Steelers Win the Superbowl

The Steelers will win Super Bowl XLV. Atleast that's what Madden says. Ea's Madden NFL 11 ran a simulation of this Sunday's big game putting the Steelers up 24-20. It's going to be a close game, so let's see how accurate Madden is.

Down 13-17 going into the fourth quarter, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers hit James Jones in the end zone to put the Pack up by three points with nine minutes left in the game. The defense for both teams kept the score tight throughout most of the fourth quarter, with neither willing to budge. After the two minute warning, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger hit Mike Wallace on a slant, and the wide receiver’s world-class speed helped outrace the Packers defense for a 36 yard touchdown pass; giving Pittsburgh the lead with 1:20 left on the clock.

 With no timeouts, Rodgers led Green Bay into Pittsburgh territory as the nail-biting contest drew to a close. In a last second desperation attempt, Rodgers targeted receiver Jordy Nelson, but Steelers safety, Ryan Clark, picked off the pass, clinching Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl XLV victory. Pittsburgh wide receiver Mike Wallace was named Super Bowl MVP with five catches for 111 total yards and a touchdown.

atdhe.net, a website devoted to providing audiences all over the globe links to broadcasting sites that play a wide variety of sporting events from around the world, has been seized by the ICE and the US Department of Homeland Security on the grounds that the website has committed copyright infringement. The site was a public service to international audiences who wanted to watch certain sporting events that aren't broadcasted on TV that is available in their area. I was a proponent of the site. I used to watch Real Madrid play soccer on this site. I'm from the United States where Real Madrid soccer matches are not available to watch on TV. I guess I'll have an extra 2 hours free on my Sundays.
